Around midday, on a Latam flight, the two million nitrile gloves donated by the Luksic Foundation arrived in Santiago. Starting tomorrow they will be distributed to public hospitals in all regions of the country, to protect health workers in their work against Covid-19.

“After almost two months of intense efforts to obtain medical supplies, we are happy that the second shipment managed by the Foundation has finally arrived in Chile. Today we have received two million medical gloves that will complement the one million masks already distributed, and thus protect the health personnel who work intensely for all of us,” said Paola Luksic, president of Fundación Luksic.

The medical gloves will be delivered directly to 87 public hospitals throughout Chile, which were designated by the Medical Association together with health authorities.

Last April 18, one million KN95 masks arrived in the country and were delivered to hospitals throughout Chile. At that time, Fundación Luksic promised to also bring gloves for health workers.

This new donation comes at a time when our country is experiencing a significant increase in the number of positive cases, which already exceed 30 thousand nationwide. In the meantime, there is a worldwide shortage of medical supplies and at least 90,000 health workers are infected, according to the International Council of Nurses.

Both donations of medical supplies in this crisis are in addition to the Luksic family’s contribution to the fund managed by the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), which raised more than $90 billion to combat the Coronavirus and which included the donation of mechanical ventilators that were made available to the Ministry of Health last week. In addition, Fundación Luksic collaborated with Desafío Levantemos Chile to deliver a mobile clinic and 2,000 protection kits for health personnel in the commune of Loncoche, in La Araucanía.
