Know the ideal sizes for each social network

  • The right format helps to better display content to users, increasing the chances of captivating people among the thousands of profiles that appear on their social networks, such as Facebook and Instagram.

For each social network, such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp and Twitter, it is recommended to use the exact measures for each post, photos and graphics, with the aim of making the content visible, in an appropriate way, this also enhances the marketing strategy.

The platforms have different sizes, depending on whether the image is for the profile picture, cover, horizontal and square, among others. Next we will detail the most important ones for you to get better visual results. All sizes are pixels (px).


Profile image: for computers, the size is 170 x 170 px. For cell phones, it is 128 x 128 px.
Cover photo: 820 x 312 px on computers, while on mobiles it will be displayed at 640 x 360 px.
Square image: corresponds to the traditional post (publication) of an image on the Facebook feed (wall). The size should not be less than 1080 x 1080 px, it is recommended to be 1200 x 1200 px. In case it is horizontal, the optimal size is 1200 x 630 px.
Stories image: some time ago this format was incorporated to Facebook and its ideal measures are 1080 x 1920 px.


Profile image: when creating the account, a profile picture representative of your business, such as the logo, should be added. The size is 180 x 180 px.
Post image: the most commonly used format is square, where the ideal size is 1080 x 1080 px. For a horizontal image, 1200 x 628 px should be used.
Story: one of the most used resources by users. To visualize the content in full size, the ideal is to create the graphic pieces in 1080 x 1920 px.


Profile: it has a size of 192 x 192 px, although it is recommended to create a 400 x 400 px image to improve quality.
Photo: although there is no established size, the recommendation is to use a minimum size of 800 x 800 px.


Profile image:
for it to frame well, it should be 400 x 400 px.
Header or cover: it must be eye-catching, but clean. It is part of the presentation of the account1500 x 500 px.
Images for tweets: for a better visualization and to avoid cutting the image, the ideal size is 440 x 200 px.

Tools to customize the measures

If you do not have the support of a designer, there are countless applications and websites that help you create the perfect graphic, according to the size you need.

One of them is Canva, which has multiple free tools, as well as other paid ones, but they are very useful to create customized designs. It also has templates, pre-established designs and varied typographies, among others, such as GoDaddy Studio.

There is also Photopea, a tool similar to the well-known Photoshop, but easier to use, where you can create graphic pieces according to each social network. Desygner is another application, available for iOS and Android, which allows you to design different graphics without being an expert on the subject.
