Elige Vivir Sano: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE SPECIAL SCHEDULE FOR OUTDOOR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

With the increase in the number of Covid-19 infections in the country, 225 communes are now under quarantine with mobility restrictions. In this sense, experts warn that the lack of physical activity may increase the level of sedentariness in people, which could cause a series of health problems.

According to the study “Encuesta de Opinión Pública sobre Percepción y Uso de la Banda Horaria Elige Vivir Sano”, carried out by the Instituto de Políticas Públicas en Salud (IPSUSS) of the Universidad San Sebastián, 61% of those surveyed say that they have reduced their physical activity during the pandemic.

It is for this reason, and given the importance of the population staying active, that the Ministries of Health and Sports have implemented the “Elige Vivir Sano” slot, within the Plan Paso a Paso, which allows people who are in Phase 1 (Quarantine) or Phase 2 (Transition), to do physical activity outdoors without the need to request a travel permit at the Virtual Police Station.

The hours of the slot are Monday to Sunday between 06:00 and 09:00 hours. Some options are for example to go jogging, cycling, rollerblading, skateboarding or even enjoy a walk. It is important to note that the use of motorized vehicles is prohibited.

When going out, all self-care measures such as the use of masks, alcohol gel and keeping a social distance should be respected. On the other hand, health authorities recommended not to use exercise machines in public squares.
