The commune of Santa Juana, in the Biobío Region, was one of the most affected by the serious fires that took place in the central-southern zone of Chile at the beginning of this year.
Faced with this situation, the Luksic Foundation and Desafío Levantemos Chile joined forces to rebuild the Rural Medical Station (EMR) of the commune, which had been destroyed after the emergency. This alliance sought to provide the community of Santa Juana with a new and modern facility, with the highest standards of construction and quality.
“We are proud of the work done together with the Municipality and Desafío Levantemos Chile to provide the families of Santa Juana with a high-level facility that we know will be essential for the community of Paso Hondo and its surroundings. At the Luksic Foundation we are always at the service of Chile and that is why, in the face of this type of emergency, we work collaboratively to be able to provide relevant support in an efficient manner,” commented Isabella Luksic, general manager of the Luksic Foundation.
Gladys Saez Zenteno, a neighbor of Santa Juana, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the community and said, “As neighbors and users we are very happy, today we feel proud of this great achievement. Being able to count on this building is of vital importance for us and especially for our senior citizens who will no longer have to wait for their health”.
The new center, whose investment was more than 250 million pesos, was completed in record time, only four months after the start of its construction, which will allow the residents of Santa Juana to once again have basic health care, focused on care such as: health controls for chronic patients, child and gynecological control, dental care, delivery of medicines, PNAC and PACAM, immunizations, among other services.
The mayor of Santa Juana, Ana Albornoz, declared that “This is a historic achievement for our commune; this is the first rural health center with a sanitary resolution in the history of Santa Juana. I greatly thank those who were part of it because they are not doing charity, they are giving us the right to health. What we are doing today in Paso Hondo is making homeland.”
“The Paso Hondo Rural Medical Station is a true reflection of public and private collaboration in what it means to lift our country out of misfortune and, in particular, in our region. We hope to continue contributing to the improvement of the health conditions of the population”, said the Seremi of Health, Dr. Eduardo Barra Jofré.
The project also includes the donation of a fully equipped ambulance, which will support home care for elderly people with reduced mobility and emergencies in the Paso Hondo community.
The executive director of Desafío Levantemos Chile, Ignacio Serrano, said that “we are very happy and proud to be inaugurating this project in only four months. Our mission was focused on the fact that the health of the neighbors cannot wait and today, thanks to the Luksic Foundation, we are fulfilling our mission to deliver a high standard facility that will provide the necessary care for thousands of people affected by the catastrophe.
