In Valparaíso, more than 3,000 students will receive information on the process of access to higher education and financing opportunities

At the national level, 55,800 students from IV technical-professional secondary schools will have at their disposal an information booklet in physical format, with useful and practical information on careers, the higher education admission process and student benefits. Meanwhile, the 487 participating schools will receive a report with recommendations to promote the continuity of studies in their educational communities.

At the Liceo Tecnológico Alfredo Nazar Feres in Valparaíso, around 50 students from the IV technical-professional secondary school received information on the process of access to higher education, such as the student benefits available to them, as part of the Luksic Foundation’s Aspirations for the Future program.

At the event, which was attended by the teaching and management community, the Parents’ Center of the school and educational authorities, a personalized letter was given to each student who completed a survey, which addressed their motivations, expectations and barriers to continuing their studies, as well as a calendar and an information brochure with the benefits of continuing studies, the differences between careers and institutions, a step-by-step guide to enter higher education and the requirements to access Gratuity, scholarships or loans.

The director of the education area of the Luksic Foundation, María Fernanda Orellana, said that “we are pleased to be able to reach more than 50% of Chile’s professional technical high schools with this initiative, and to be present in all regions, as one of our objectives is to provide tools to schools and students so that they can make informed decisions about their future, and realize that high school is not the end of their education, but can be the beginning of a new stage”.

Main findings of Aspirations about the Future 2023In May of this year, Aspirations about the Future 2023 obtained the sponsorship of the Ministry of Education, a symbolic recognition that validates this initiative that provides relevant information to students and is an opportunity to reinforce decision-making.

In this sense, a total of 487 technical-professional high schools from all over Chile participated in Aspirations for the Future 2023. In this way, more than 55,800 high school students will receive information about the admission process to higher education. In turn, high schools will receive a report with recommendations to promote the continuity of studies in their educational communities.

Among the data highlighted at the national level:

  • 76% of students want to enter higher education next year, and 15% in two more years.
  • 69% say they plan to apply to universities, 16% to IPs, 5% to CFTs and 10% to the Armed Forces or Public Order and Security.
  • The most common sources of information used to learn about issues related to higher education are: Teachers and/or counselors, family members; websites of private organizations and official websites.
  • 73% of the students say they know little or very little about financing opportunities, while 74% say they know little or very little about the process for applying for financing.
  • 60% say that they know little or very little about the process of applying to higher education.
  • Only 4% of the students correctly indicate the requirements for accessing Gratuidad.

Finally, the activity was attended by the Head of Division of the Public Education Directorate, Alexis Moreira; the Provincial Head of Education of the Valparaíso Region, María Alejandra Torres; and the Chief of Staff of the Local Education Service of Valparaíso, Leandro Pena, among others.
