From the first moment we started working to make concrete and efficient contributions in different areas, in order to support those who are being affected by the pandemic.
We committed and brought to Chile 1 million KN95 masks and 2 million nitrile gloves to be delivered to medical personnel throughout the country. These supplies were delivered to hospitals in all regions, according to the decisions made by the Chilean Medical Association, which has a large territorial deployment and, therefore, a deep knowledge of where the main medical shortages are.
Aware of the difficulties being experienced in the different regions of the country, especially in the region of La Araucanía, together with Desafío Levantemos Chile we delivered a mobile clinic and 2 thousand kits with masks, gowns and gloves to the commune of Loncoche.
Given the humanitarian crisis that is affecting the country due to the pandemic, as a foundation we have been delivering food boxes to almost 50 thousand families in different parts of Chile. This donation is being made directly to the municipalities and through the organization Red de Alimentos.
Also, given the very high occupancy rates recorded by the hospital network in the Metropolitan Region, we made a donation of 490 million pesos, which will allow the Hospital Clínico José Joaquín Aguirre to reach a thousand emergency care per day, and these resources will be used for the implementation of 8 new boxes and the conversion of 18 basic beds into critical beds, thus reaching a total of 120 critical beds, reaching a ventilation capacity of 250 patients per month.
The Chilean Society of Pediatric Surgery made a great campaign to get smartphones for children who are in various medical centers in the country without being able to have contact with their parents. As a Foundation we joined this great cause by contributing all the cell phones that were missing to reach the goal so that children can communicate with their families and feel accompanied.
Convinced of the contribution that migrants mean to Chile, in Fundación Luksic we are working together with the Servicio Jesuita Migrante (SJM) in a comprehensive territorial support plan for migrant families in highly vulnerable situations. The plan includes different areas such as socio-legal assistance for migrants and refugees in need and humanitarian support for migrant families in vulnerable situations.
On July 13, through a live broadcast, the Movidos x Chile network and the International Festival of Social Innovation (fiiS), together with civil society organizations, including Fundación Luksic, launched the campaign “Choose your cause and move”, which seeks to raise funds to help more than 160 organizations affected by the crisis generated by Covid-19.
At the beginning of the second semester, we joined the “Almacén Solidario” initiative, which provides food boxes to 600 elderly people in Antofagasta and Curicó who need them most in the context of the health crisis. These donations from the Luksic family are in addition to the contribution made to the fund managed by the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), which raised $90 billion to combat the coronavirus and which was made available to the Ministry of Health.
