During the last few months, the infrastructure of the Pascual Baburizza Agricultural Institute (IAPB), whose sponsor is the Luksic Educational Foundation, has undergone several renovations. One of the new and innovative transformations is the installation of a solar energy plant that will supply electricity to the establishment.

As one of the most widely used Non-Conventional Renewable Energies (NCRE) in our country, through the company Solcor Chile, the construction of a patio of 2,000 m2 was managed, where 300 panels with a surface of 1,400 m2 of solar collection will be located. This will allow the IAPB to produce its own energy for daytime use with a generation capacity of 100 KW.

“For the institute this is a very important milestone. For some time now we have been working on the incorporation of techniques that reuse resources within our productive systems, as well as lines of work linked to the use of biological tools to provide our students with these skills, knowledge and sensitize them with a competence that they can use and make available in their professional future”, commented Gonzalo León, Head of the Technical Professional Specialty of the IAPB.

The site will have a permanent space where students can learn the value of clean energy and the importance of mitigating the effects of climate change, since this plant will reduce emissions by approximately 132 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to planting 8,848 trees in 20 years.

It should be noted that the IAPB is applying for the Environmental Certification of Educational Establishments of the Ministry of the Environment, which aims to promote environmental education for sustainability in educational activities and thus contribute to the creation of a school culture linked to care for the environment.
