During four weeks different outdoor activities were carried out with the participation of children between 6 and 12 years of age. The main objective was to provide them with a space for recreation and learning during their vacations.

With the aim of contributing to the development of the commune, from the generation of trust, participation and articulation between the community, the private sector and the public sector, the Municipality of Calle Larga and the Luksic Foundation organized a summer school for children in the commune in February.

“As a result of the work we are doing in the commune, in alliance with the Municipality of Calle Larga and in conversations with the neighbors, the idea of creating an instance for the children to enjoy during the summer was born. We made available the swimming pool and green spaces of the Pascual Baburizza Agricultural Institute (IAPB) – supported by the Luksic Educational Foundation – to provide them with moments of entertainment and learning through sustainable agriculture workshops”, explained Constanza Fernández, director of the Territorial Linkage area of the Luksic Foundation.

About 15 children from the commune, between 6 and 12 years of age, learned for four weeks about caring for the environment and easy practices to apply at home to contribute to it, such as recycling, through the workshop “Sustainable agriculture and the environment”.

The workshop, which was led by an IAPB teacher, was divided into three modules: learning how to make seedlings from organic household waste, making pots for medicinal herbs from recycled plastic containers and making organic briopreparations to control pests.

In addition, the children were able to share and enjoy the afternoons in the IAPB swimming pool, which was always guarded by two lifeguards.

“It has been a very positive experience, where the work has been focused on the children of the commune to enjoy and learn this summer, always in charge of monitors. We are very grateful for this work and hope to be able to replicate and develop new activities for the benefit of the community”, said Carolina Córdova, coordinator of the summer school of the Municipality of Calle Larga.
