“After a long journey that involved a huge management and logistics work, the million specialized masks are finally in Chile. Now we will start at full speed with the distribution to hospitals all over the country in order to protect health workers, who make sacrifices every day to take care of us all”, commented Paola Luksic, president of the Luksic Foundation.
The masks were transported in an airplane operated by LATAM Cargo whose operation required more than thirteen multidisciplinary teams that planned and coordinated the flight, as well as 15 crew members who were responsible for carrying out the 57-hour trip and bringing the supplies back to Chile for the health personnel.
The donation comes at a time of worldwide shortage of supplies due to Covid-19 and after the Ministry of Health announced that the use of face masks will be mandatory in public places, all types of transportation and even in elevators.
The specialized masks will be distributed by Correos de Chile throughout the country: they will reach 62 hospitals and 19 regional councils, which were determined by the Medical Association, after a detailed survey of information in conjunction with the health authorities.
The Luksic Foundation is also working to bring one million gloves and other initiatives that can contribute to face this pandemic. This, in addition to the recent contribution made to the fund managed by the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), which has already raised more than $80 billion to combat the Coronavirus and which has been made available to the Ministry of Health.
