REMA 2 Graduation Ceremony: Over 100 Teachers Graduate After Three Years of Enhancing Student Learning

27 •  dec •  2024

The 131 teachers in the network belong to technical-professional schools from the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, and Maule. They participated in Fundación Luksic’s Redes de Mejora para los Aprendizajes (REMA) program, which aims to promote teacher well-being and improve classroom interactions.

“The connection you make with students goes beyond the classroom. You have to be aware of their entire world, understand what’s happening to them, and provide emotional support.” Mario Gonzáles, a math teacher at Liceo Clotario Blest Riffo, is one of over 300 educators who have participated in the Redes de Mejora para los Aprendizajes program. This initiative seeks to improve language and math learning for first- and second-year high school students in technical-professional schools.

Since 2020, the program has implemented a collaborative methodology, providing three years of support from a multidisciplinary team for participants in the REMA network. This approach focuses on enhancing teacher-student interactions, developing socio-emotional skills, and strengthening leadership capacities.

The program’s first cohort of graduates, from REMA 1, completed their training in 2023. In 2024, it was the turn of REMA 2 teachers and administrators from the regions of Coquimbo, Valparaíso, Metropolitana, O’Higgins, and Maule. They worked collaboratively to improve and enrich the life trajectories of their students.

REMA 2 Graduation

To conclude the program, REMA 2 teachers participated in an emotional graduation ceremony filled with joy, enthusiasm, and high expectations for applying their newly acquired knowledge autonomously in their schools.

At the event, Emilio Pulgar, principal of Liceo Polivalente Los Guindos in Curicó, emphasized the pedagogical exchange among teachers and expressed his deep gratitude for this significant milestone: “We deeply thank the Foundation because these acts greatly dignify the teaching profession and motivate us to make every effort to ensure the REMA methodology becomes embedded in our school. The support from the team was fundamental, close, and caring.”

The event featured the participation of the Impulso Docente team and Centre UC, key allies in the program’s implementation. Centre UC contributed through the CLASS tool, which allows observation of classroom interactions to improve teaching practices.

Also in attendance were Fundación Luksic team members, including Isabella Luksic, general manager, who expressed her gratitude to the teachers. “You are the agents of change and the future for many young people in our country. It has been an honor to work with you over these three years, and on behalf of the Foundation, we thank you for the time and care you’ve dedicated to this beautiful and highly collaborative program,” said Isabella.

Nataly Aguilar, a teacher at Liceo Complejo Educacional Chimbarongo, and Laura Ramírez, a teacher at Liceo Bicentenario TP Simón Bolívar in Curicó, agree that REMA had a profoundly positive impact on developing collaborative skills among both teachers and students. They highlighted that the socio-emotional component was a cornerstone for organizational and pedagogical development.

Nataly shared, “The improvements we experienced were significant. The training sessions were innovative, engaging, and provided highly comprehensive support.” Meanwhile, Laura reflected on the future: “Now begins a new stage where we take on the challenge of continuing this beautiful work the Foundation invited us to participate in.”
