Emergency Support

In June 2024, the central-southern region of Chile experienced heavy rains and strong winds that affected thousands of homes and families across the regions of Coquimbo to Biobío. According to records from the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), Biobío was the most affected region with the highest number of victims. The Luksic Foundation coordinated on-site efforts with authorities and communities in the affected areas, offering direct support to the impacted families.

Specifically, we provided over 1,000 essential needs boxes, including 500 food boxes and 500 hygiene and cleaning supplies boxes, to isolated and affected families in the municipalities of Lota, Arauco, and Hualqui. Additionally, we distributed 50 emergency clothing kits to the Municipality of Arauco and 30 kits to the Municipality of Hualqui to ensure their teams could operate safely. We also supported entrepreneurs through gift cards to help them restart their businesses and/or repair their homes after the severe weather.

Similarly, in 2023, we extended our support to communities affected by a weather system that impacted areas in the O’Higgins and Maule regions. Believing in the importance of collaboration between organizations to amplify impact, we partnered with the Te Apoyamos Foundation to deliver mattresses, blankets, and cleaning kits to residents of Santa Cruz, Lolol, Peralillo, Ñiquén, and Isla Pencahue. In addition, together with Desafío Levantemos Chile, we rebuilt the Ayenhue Nursery School in Coltauco, one of the most severely affected municipalities after the mudslides. This reconstruction enabled more than 50 children to resume their activities.
