Artificial Intelligence and Luksic Fellowship: boosting global knowledge

The debate on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and its incorporation into the educational system has gained momentum. Higher education institutions are taking concrete steps to integrate this technology in a responsible manner, creating new vice-rectorships, developing ethical frameworks, and expanding their academic offerings with specialized AI programs.

The challenge of empowering AI as a transformational tool is a shared responsibility among different actors. Educational establishments have incorporated different strategies to turn artificial intelligence into an ally, and from the public sphere, the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) recently incorporated AI as a priority area within the Chile Scholarships, thus highlighting the urgency of training professionals capable of facing the ethical, social and technical challenges in this area.

As a Foundation, through the International Training area, we promote since 2024 a scholarship program that finances 100% of the studies for Chilean men and women accepted in the Master in Artificial Intelligence and Data Ethics at the University of Edinburgh, one of the world’s leading institutions in this field. This interdisciplinary master’s degree prepares professionals to anticipate and address the ethical, social and regulatory dilemmas of the use of AI, with a critical, applied and global perspective.

This year sees the graduation of the program’s first Chilean grantee and four new students, from different regions and with backgrounds in higher education, data science and public policy, will begin their training. They all share a common purpose: to contribute to the responsible development of AI in Chile, integrating what they have learned into their respective work and territorial contexts.

“The development of AI must be accompanied by deep and constant reflection. We are confident that investing in human capabilities is fundamental for this technology to translate into opportunities to amplify talent, as well as valuing it as a mechanism for transformation,” says Trinidad García, director of International Training at Fundación Luksic.

By supporting these types of programs, the Luksic Foundation contributes not only to the professional development of individuals, but also to the strengthening of capacities in multiple sectors that today face the accelerated advance of this technology, in areas such as education, health and transportation, among others.
