“Future at Stake”: Call for Applications Opens to Strengthen Sports Workshops in Los Ríos

To support children’s development through sports, Fundación Luksic has opened applications for its Futuro en Juego fund, through which 30 sports programs across the Los Ríos Region can apply for grants of up to CLP 1,000,000 to purchase equipment and sports gear.

Only 26.4% of children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 17 are considered physically active, according to the latest National Physical Activity and Sports Survey. Evidence shows that participation in sports plays a fundamental role in children’s growth and development, contributing to healthy growth, strengthening motor skills, and supporting emotional well-being.

Against this backdrop, Fundación Luksic launched the Futuro en Juego call for applications on June 15. The initiative aims to strengthen sports programs that, in addition to promoting physical activity, help develop the socio-emotional skills that are essential to the well-being and future success of children and adolescents.

The application period will remain open until June 30. Through the initiative, up to 30 coaches and instructors running extracurricular sports programs in the Los Ríos Region will be eligible for grants of up to CLP 1,000,000 to purchase sports equipment—such as balls, nets, mats, stopwatches, and weights—as well as sports apparel, including uniforms and athletic shoes.

To apply, coaches must lead sports activities for children and adolescents in the Los Ríos Region, whether through schools, community organizations, or independently. Applications can be submitted through an online form available at fundacionluksic.cl.

Regarding the purpose of the initiative, Cristián Schalper, Social Programs Manager at Fundación Luksic, explained: “When a child participates in a sports program, they are not only engaging in physical activity; in many cases, they are also learning life skills that help them regulate emotions, cope with frustration, and adapt to challenging situations.” He added that “these experiences can also have a tangible impact on their future pathways, including school retention, the prevention of risky behaviors, employability, and higher earnings.”

To support the challenges coaches face every day, Fundación Luksic will also invite grant recipients to participate in a free online training course. The course will provide practical tools for incorporating socio-emotional skill development into sports activities through real-life scenarios and collaborative learning opportunities among participants.
