Luksic Foundation commits to building a modular school in Punta de Parra

Following the destruction of a school in Tomé, Biobío region, which serves nearly 200 students, Macarena Cea, general manager of the Luksic Foundation, announced that the foundation is joining the “Desafío Levantemos el Sur” campaign of Desafío Levantemos Chile, with a donation of $520 million pesos for the construction of a modular school in Punta de Parra, so that the students can resume their classes as soon as possible.

The south of Chile is facing one of the most complex tragedies in recent years as a result of the forest fires that have affected the regions of Ñuble, Biobío and La Araucanía. In view of this scenario, Desafío Levantemos Chile, in alliance with Banco de Chile, launched the “Desafío Levantemos el Sur” campaign.

The NGO carried out an online program with the objective of generating a space for collaboration and national commitment to deliver timely aid to the communities and managed to raise close to $6.5 billion for the reconstruction and comprehensive support of families affected by the forest fires.

Several foundations, companies and entities joined the event, deciding to channel their resources through the organization and making important donations in order to expedite support to the affected communities and transform this commitment into real solutions for those who need it most. Among them, the Luksic Foundation, who pledged a donation of $520 million pesos to support the reconstruction of the Punta de Parra modular school.

The general manager of the Foundation, Macarena Cea, made the announcement: “The Luksic family, through the Luksic Foundation, is always at the service of Chile in times of great need, such as this emergency. Our commitment is to arrive with relevant contributions and in an efficient manner, hoping to support families who are going through difficult times. In Punta de Parra we were able to see how the school that serves nearly 200 students was left, so today we are joining the work of Desafío Levantemos Chile with $520 million to build this modular school so that the students can return to school as soon as possible”.

The President of Desafío Levantemos Chile, Nicolás Birrell, commented that: “Rebuilding families who lost everything is a national priority. We know that there is no magic formula to achieve this, but we are certain that, thanks to collaboration, it is possible. No institution can face an emergency of this magnitude alone; we all need each other. That is why every company, foundation and person who joins us in this journey is key to lifting the communities and giving them back hope.

The Luksic Foundation’s support is in addition to the Foundation’s deployment on the ground during the emergency. Among them, 1,000 boxes of basic necessities (general and personal hygiene) for families of Punta de Parra, toys for the children of Tomé, a generator to ensure the electricity supply of the Municipality of Penco, and five water trucks with a total capacity of more than 70 thousand liters of drinking water, to supply neighbors and/or support the emergency work of the fire departments and municipalities of Tomé, Penco and Florida, according to the requirements of each sector.
