Luksic Foundation delivers 1,000 boxes of basic necessities for families of Punta de Parra

In response to the forest fires that have affected the central-southern part of the country, the Foundation delivered general and personal hygiene kits for 1,000 families in one of the areas most affected by the emergency.

The forest fires that occurred on January 17 have had a devastating impact on the central-southern zone of the country. Particularly, the coastal sector of Punta de Parra, in the commune of Tomé, has been one of the hardest hit, facing destruction of great magnitude with an estimated loss of 90% of the houses.

Since the beginning of the emergency, the Luksic Foundation has maintained permanent coordination with local authorities to identify the most urgent needs and support the affected communities.

Following coordination with the Municipality of Tomé, the Foundation delivered 1,000 boxes of general and personal hygiene kits to cover the basic needs of the affected families in this sector.

The boxes contain essential supplies for hygiene and personal care, including sanitary towels, wet wipes, soap, toilet paper, alcohol gel, face masks, toothbrushes and toothpaste. In addition, there are cleaning and sanitizing products for the home, such as detergent, bleach, dishwashing liquid, sponge and cleaning gloves, as well as basic implements such as a basin and plastic shovel, to support the cleaning and recovery of the affected areas.

“At the Luksic Foundation we are at the service of Chile, especially in times of greatest need, such as this emergency. Our commitment is to reach out with relevant and efficient contributions. Today we delivered these 1,000 boxes, with the support of the Municipality of Tomé, which we hope can be a contribution to families who are experiencing a particularly difficult time,” said Macarena Cea, general manager of the Luksic Foundation.

The mayor of the commune of Tomé, Ítalo Cáceres, valued the support provided: “We are very grateful for this contribution, not only because it covers the needs of our neighbors with personal and household hygiene items, but also because it reaffirms the necessary link between the municipality and the private sector. This coordination allows us to reach the families affected by the fires in a dignified and efficient manner”.

This support is in addition to the Foundation’s deployment in the field during the emergency. In addition to the 1,000 boxes, the Luksic Foundation delivered toys for the children of Tomé, a generator to ensure the electricity supply of the Municipality of Penco, and five water trucks with a total capacity of more than 70,000 liters of drinking water to supply neighbors and/or support the emergency work of the fire departments and municipalities of Tomé, Penco and Florida, depending on the requirements of each sector.

In the same spirit of helping the victims of this emergency, Te Apoyamos, a foundation created by Andrónico Luksic, has deployed a series of aid in the affected areas, including the delivery of 800 awnings, 800 solar lights for public spaces and homes without electricity supply, 50 chemical toilets and 20 portable showers located in strategic areas of the affected neighborhoods. In addition, mattress, pillow and bedding kits were distributed, together with more than 10,000 diapers and wet wipes for children and the elderly. This work has been concentrated mainly in the communes of Penco, Tomé and Ránquil, which are among the areas most affected by the forest fires.

The executive director of Fundación Te Apoyamos, Carolina Ubilla, said that “since the first days we have been on the ground, delivering concrete support to the affected families. This week we continue to be deployed, meeting with local authorities to continue identifying needs and activating the necessary support for the next stages of reconstruction, with the aim of moving forward together in overcoming this emergency”.

Te Apoyamos also has a web form available at www.fundacionteapoyamos.clwhere people affected by the disaster can apply for different types of assistance, such as tools to reactivate small businesses, technical aids such as wheelchairs, clinical cots and donkeys; and basic household goods such as beds, stoves or refrigerators, thus strengthening a recovery strategy oriented to the medium and long term.
