Luksic–Schwarzman Scholarship Offers Full Funding to Study a Master’s in Global Affairs in China
The program brings together young people from around the world to develop future leaders through the study of China’s role in international affairs. It is open to applicants between the ages of 18 and 28, and applications will remain open until September 9.
With the goal of expanding access to opportunities for young people interested in international cooperation, Fundación Luksic supports the Schwarzman Scholars program, a Master’s degree in Global Affairs offered by Tsinghua University in Beijing. Designed to address the challenges of the 21st century, the program seeks to prepare the next generation of leaders based on the belief that their success will depend on their understanding of China’s role in global trends.
To introduce the opportunity, an informational session was held featuring Nkima Stephenson, Admissions Outreach and Selection Officer at Schwarzman Scholars, who explained the program’s main academic focus areas and the application process.
“When we think about the fundamental challenges facing economies around the world, they are actually quite similar. That is why learning how China succeeded in lifting millions of people out of poverty while fostering innovation in technology and research can be extremely valuable for Chile, particularly when considering which strategies could be adapted and applied within its own context,” said Stephenson.
The application process requires the submission of a résumé, two essays, academic transcripts from higher education institutions, three letters of recommendation, and a personal introduction video. Applications will remain open until September 9, the selection process will take place between October and November, and the academic program will begin in August 2027.
The event also featured Luksic Scholar Bernardita Castillo, an Information and Management Control Engineer from the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile and the second Chilean woman selected for the program, who shared her experience.
“Participating in opportunities like this allows us to bring new ideas and knowledge back to Chile and contribute to its development. Chileans remain underrepresented in spaces like these, and increasing that participation is essential both to showcase our talent globally and to bring valuable knowledge back home,” said Castillo, who completed the master’s program between 2024 and 2025.
Fundación Luksic seeks to promote the international development of Chilean talent by supporting access to graduate studies and other educational opportunities, enabling individuals to become agents of change for the country.
“The most important challenges of our time require the ability to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and perspectives. That is why we support this opportunity: so that more people can gain a deeper understanding of China’s role in the world and access international educational experiences that broaden their perspectives and strengthen their ability to contribute to Chile,” explained Trinidad García, Director of International Education at Fundación Luksic.
For those interested in the application process, Fundación Luksic will host a second online information session on July 14 at 5:00 p.m.
