Form to impulse
From the north to the south of Chile, the Luksic Foundation has implemented its programs reaching more than 60,000 people throughout the country. With training as a pillar, the organization works with a focus on the areas of Education, Sports and Entrepreneurship, seeking to deliver skills and develop competencies so that the people themselves are the agents of change in their lives.
This year, the Luksic Foundation reached more than 60,000 people in all regions of the country with its programs. Our teams were on the ground from north to south, visiting educational establishments, talking to students about their dreams, meeting with entrepreneurs, learning about their businesses and celebrating their achievements, working with children in sports schools, doing physical activity with them, promoting values and supporting parents and guardians in their parenting work.
During 2023 we worked with drive and conviction to achieve our purpose: “We are at the service of Chile. We contribute to the development of the country by strengthening people’s capabilities“. This is because at the Luksic Foundation we believe in the talent of those who live in Chile, and that with their abilities they can improve their lives and thus contribute to the growth of the country.
Adaptability, collaboration, resilience, empathy, vision, leadership and motivation are some of the many skills that people living in Chile have and we want to support them, through training, so that they can enhance them and develop different competencies and capabilities that make them agents of change in their lives.
Education as a foundation
The main training pillar is education, there is no doubt about that. At the Luksic Foundation we have been involved with initiatives in this area since our inception because we know that it is through education that we can enhance people’s life trajectories, both from a professional and personal approach.
During 2023, we are working to continue promoting the continuity of studies of students in secondary technical-professional education (TP), because this makes a difference in terms of employability and income level. We work with students in their fourth year of secondary education through the Aspirations for the Future (ASF) program, which identifies the main barriers faced by students in technical and vocational education to access higher education, with the aim of supporting them to make informed decisions. This year we interviewed more than 50 thousand students from all regions of the country and provided them with personalized sets with useful and practical information on careers, higher education access processes and student benefits.
“Information should not be a barrier. Information is power, we have to give the country’s young people the power over their future”, said about this program Fernanda Orellana, Director of Education, in an opinion column on Radio Bíobio.
We also work with teachers through the Educational Networks for the Improvement of Learning (REMA), whose objective is to improve the language and mathematics(REMA) program, whose objective is to improve the language and mathematics learning of students in the first and second grades of more than 500 technical-professional high schools.
“REMA has helped us to generate baseline conditions that allow us to improve the learning of our high school students, even more so with strategies that promote the socioemotional wellbeing of us, the teachers and directors of the establishment,” commented the director of the Liceo Tecnológico Nuevo Horizonte de Curicó, Sergio Aravena, at a seminar in December.
We have also been present in Higher Education, through Luksic Scholars Foundation which promotes and facilitates access to academic experiences in Higher Education that connect Chile with the world and vice versa, in order to contribute to the development of Chile from the people. In total, more than 2 thousand people have participated in the different programs, 107 of them did so in 2023.
Entrepreneurship as a driving force
We are convinced that entrepreneurs are a driving force in our country, and we work to provide them with concrete, relevant and tailored opportunities so that they can increase their sales and grow their businesses.
This year we supported more than 4,000 entrepreneurs throughout Chile with our different programs:Impulso Inicial, Chilean Impulse y Despega Mujer. “We want to tell our country’s entrepreneurs that we have confidence in them, that we believe they will be able to move their businesses forward and fulfill their dreams, we have faith in them,” said Cristián Schalper, director of Entrepreneurship, regarding the Foundation’s commitment to Chile’s entrepreneurs.
“The training part of the program was really good, it allowed me to learn about costs, cash flow and to be able to give the order that the business needed. If I hadn’t won Despega Mujer our growth would have been much slower. You are not the only entrepreneur, a family is the entrepreneur,” says Paola González, winner of the program for women entrepreneurs that provides financing, mentoring, training and learning circles.
The winners of Impulso Chileno, a program that this year launched its sixth call for applications, which received more than 24,000 applications, value the value of training for entrepreneurs. “Impulso Chileno was a real blessing. If it had not been for the award, I would not have set up or equipped my business or given employment to more women. The academic support offered by the program marks a before and after and I also received a wonderful mentoring that guided me and ordered my business,” said Claudia Rodriguez, winner of Impulso Chileno IV.
Sport as a platform
We believe in sports as a platform to promote physical, cognitive and socioemotional health and strengthen social cohesion. In this area, we seek to support the formation of different skills and healthy life habits in children, youth and adults.
“Sport is a tremendous platform for developing protective components and its benefits can be maximized and its long-term effects can be generated by accompanying the practice of sport with comprehensive interventions that promote the development of skills and competencies in those who practice sport and involve their families and close relatives,” explains Macarena Cea, director of Evaluation and Development at the Luksic Foundation.
In addition to physical training for children, the Luksic Foundation’s schools offer positive parenting workshops for parents to support them in their parenting work. Evidence shows that positive parenting promotes higher self-esteem, better problem-solving skills and a greater ability to establish relationships in children and adolescents. “At the Luksic Foundation we consider sports activities as a bridge that allows us to promote a healthy lifestyle in people, both physically and emotionally,” said Rosario Donoso, director of the Sports area of the Luksic Foundation.
That is what we have been doing during 2023 by giving continuity to our sports schools. During this year, more than a thousand boys and girls have participated in the Luksic Foundation’s soccer and field hockey training in our 19 schools.
Country contributions as a principle
In addition to the defined areas in which we work, we are always aware of and connected to the different realities of Chile. That is why, in the face of the causes and emergencies that mobilize the country, we make ourselves available to the institutions, communities and people who need support in order to provide them with concrete and relevant contributions.
The Luksic family has supported the construction and implementation of the Teleton Institute of Antofagasta since 2014 and this year 2023 recommitted funding for the operation of the center.
In addition, this year our country was affected in the summer by fires of enormous magnitude. In this context, the Luksic family took the necessary steps to coordinate the arrival in Chile of the Aerotanker, one of the most versatile air tankers of its kind. The aircraft was in the country fighting the fires for 29 days. In response to this emergency, the Foundation also delivered 53 back-to-school kits and rebuilt the Santa Juana Rural Medical Station, which was delivered in a record time of four months and will benefit 7,000 patients in the commune and surrounding areas.
During the winter, different frontal systems affected different regions of Chile, and floods caused severe damage in several communities. Fundación Luksic together with Fundación Te Apoyamos delivered cleaning kits and mattresses for the affected families in 6 towns. In addition, Fundación Luksic together with Desafío Levantemos Chile committed to the reconstruction of the Aynhue kindergarten in Coltauco, which will benefit 50 children and their families.
The commitment to Chile is a permanent principle of the Foundation and the Luksic family. We want to continue on the path of training because we believe it is the best way in which we can contribute to the people and the country. We will continue to work rigorously, evaluating our programs and initiatives, hoping that they have the greatest reach and being willing to improve them as often as necessary.
“We seek to ensure the quality of all programs and initiatives in which we participate, along with efficient and close delivery. We work to develop effective solutions that respond to the challenges identified, that have significant reach and that ideally can be amplified. In 2024 we will continue working with passion, energy and responsibility to continue delivering quality service throughout Chile,” said Isabella Luksic, general manager of the Luksic Foundation.
